Texting each other to sleep, so sweet
Living the millennial, digital dream"
We live in an age constantly illuminated by electric blue light. True darkness has become hard to find. Our lives revolve around screens large and small and a constant need for communication to affirm our self-worth. As we lie in bed longing for intimacy we swipe left and right or click profiles, but never message first – who would want to seem so eager? It seems it would be so easy with the world at our fingertips but the longer we stare into the digital abyss, the harder it becomes to make those interactions real. We message each other late at night, emoticons replacing kisses and hugs, searching meekly for true love but having already given up. Is this what we want? Is this the intimacy we seek? Or have we become slaves to our own machines?
In my quest to answer these questions for myself, I began to experiment with using digital screens as my light source. By illuminating my subject with only a phone and laptop I attempt to capture the solitary essence of the millennial search for love.
